Case Study 2: Firestone Liberia
Project Background
Firestone Liberia Inc., an indirect subsidiary of Bridgestone America Inc., is the world’s single largest contiguous natural rubber producing operation.
Its Liberia operations include a fully funded community infrastructure consisting of:
- Housing
- Schools
- Clinics
- A referral hospital
Firestone remains the largest private employer in Liberia.
Project Specifications
Between 2004 and 2017, Firestone Liberia invested USD $1.3 billion into the Liberian economy, including:
- Wages and salaries
- Healthcare
- Education
- Taxes paid to the Government of Liberia
- Rubber purchases from Liberian farmers
- Payments for goods and services
These investments are in addition to ongoing operational purchases of equipment and manufactured products.
