National Investment Commission Press Statement:
The Chairman of the National Investment Commission, Hon. O. Natty B. Davis was recently in the Republic of Turkey as part of a one week visit to that country heading a business delegation. Chairman Davis and delegation accepted an invitation to visit Mr. Kadir Topbass, Mayor of Istanbul and also President of the World City Council at his Sarachane municipal office in Turkey.
During the discussions, Mayor Topbas pointed out that Liberia democratization must be commended and attached great importance to the international relation, principles, and standards in Africa. Mayor Topbas further stated that the government of the republic of Turkey would cooperate to further develop the relations with Liberia in every sector. He added that his country is willing to share knowledge, experiences and extend every type of support to Africa of which Liberia is no exception.
Mayor Kadir Topbas has agreed to cooperate with the twining of municipalities around Liberia more specifically Monrovia and Paynesville with Istanbul through capacity and infrastructure building. Also as part of support to TVET and vocational skill training, Mr. Topbas agreed to accept a total of ten (10) persons bi-annually from Liberia to be trained at the Istanbul Vocational Center, which currently provides wide range of skill training.
Speaking during the visit, the NIC’s boss, Hon. O Natty B. Davis expressed his pleasure and extended gratitude to Mr. Topbas for the cordial reception accorded him and his delegation to Sarachane municipal office.
The United Nations development program (UNDP) played the role as convener, facilitator and broker of investment and development of the private sector. The UNDP’S Istanbul international Center for private sector Development accompanied the Liberian delegation to meet Istanbul Municipal city mayor, Mr. Kadir Topbas.
The Liberian delegation was in the Republic of Turkey as part of a wider engagement with the Istanbul international Center for Private Sector Development (IICPSD) for the purpose of knowledge sharing on modules related to the formulation of a Private Sector Development Strategy (PSDS)
